Pennsylvania Longwall Coal Mining

WallacePancher Group conducts pre-mining baseline field investigations necessary to support the environmental permitting requirements of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP) via technical guidance document (TGD) #563-2000-655 “Surface Water Protection – Underground Bituminous Coal Mining Operations”. WallacePancher Group is also responsible for the compilation and submittal of PADEP Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act (SMCRA) permit applications, as well as conducting post-mining field investigations, including long-term biological and flow monitoring, necessary to support all environmental regulatory compliance measures.

Since 2003, WallacePancher Group has performed the following field investigations in support of longwall mining projects:

  • Over 65,000 acres of land investigated for wetlands
  • Over 500 miles of stream classification
  • Over 10,000 Macroinvertebrate samples collected
  • Over 50 longwall panels permitted
